Sabic plans to construct petrochemical complex at Yanbu

HOUSTON, Dec. 22 -- Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic) plans to construct a petrochemical complex at the Yanbu Industrial City on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia.

The new cracker, which is expected to come on stream in 2007, will have production capacity of 1.3 million tonnes/year. In addition, plans call for the construction of a polyethylene plant having 800,000 tonnes/year capacity, an ethylene glycol plant with 700,000 tonnes/year capacity, and a polypropylene plant with 350,000 tonnes/year capacity.

Sabic executives said the new complex is part of the company's strategy to increase its competitiveness.
