Statoil ASA's completed wildcat on the Gråspe prospect 175 km off northern Norway in the Norwegian Sea is a duster. The area is 3 km northeast of Statoil's Norne field.

Five days after running aground just outside the entrance to Kaohsiung Port in Kaoshiung Harbor , the 30,000-ton tanker "Al Farabi" has been successfully refloated.

Is LNG the answer to US natural gas supply woes? Thanks to Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's recent testimony before Congress, that has become the question of the moment. Projections of LNG import capacity doubling to 6 bcfd by 2007 were posited as the cure for future gas price spikes being alleviated only by demand destruction. ChevronTexaco Corp. has signed an 18-month time charter contract with Stelmar Shipping Ltd., Athens, for the Rimar double-hull Handymax tanker for 14,000/day. Handymax tankers are 10,000-60,000 dwt vessels. The charter is to start at the end of July.

Qatar Petroleum Co. and Exxon Mobil Corp. have awarded contracts for onshore Qatargas II LNG expansion project facilities to Chiyoda Corp., Yokohama, for the main front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase and to M.W. Kellogg Ltd.for a receiving terminal. The offshore FEED contract will be awarded later this year.

Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., a subsidiary of El Paso Corp., is holding a non-binding open season through Aug. 11 to assess market interest in additional firm capacity through its proposed Freedom Trail expansion project.
07/09/2003 -- CPC wins Taiwan Power LNG supply contract, plans terminals for 2004
Taiwan's state-owned Chinese Petroleum Corp (CPC) has won a contract to supply 1.7 million tonnes/year of LNG to the Taiwan Power Co.'s Tatan plant. CPC's winning bid of $298.2 billion (Twn.) or $8.65 billion (US) for the 25-year contract that begins in 2008 took industry watchers by surprise, as it was nearly 25% below the $400 billion (Twn.) or $11.6 billion (US) floor price Taipower set and 6% lower than the next lowest bid.

The pre-qualification process for the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-backed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan natural gas pipeline project (TAP) has been put on hold, while studies are carried out, according to an ADB communiqué. Present information available on the project is not enough to enable the sponsor to put in binding proposals, said the ADB communication.
