    Oman awarded an $879 million contract to a Japanese consortium of JGC Corp. and Yokohama-based Chiyoda Corp. for construction of a new refinery at Sohar, 250 km northwest of Muscat.
  • 01/03/2003 -- AltaGas commissions Joffre ethane extraction plant
    Calgary-based AltaGas Services reported that commissioning of the Joffre ethane extraction plant's major systems and equipment is under way, and pre-production testing will continue into this month.

  • 09/08/2003 -- Imperial Oil's refit Dartmouth refinery producing low-sulfur gasoline
    Imperial Oil officially opened the low-sulfur gasoline production unit at its Dartmouth refinery in Nova Scotia Thursday, reducing sulfur in its gasoline content by more than 90%.
  • 08/06/2003 -- ChevronTexaco inks deal to supply Australian LNG to Mexico
    A unit of ChevronTexaco Corp. said it signed a memorandum of understanding with the joint venture partners of Gorgon natural gas field to supply at least 2 million tonnes/year of LNG over 20 years starting in 2008 to an LNG terminal planned for construction off Baja California.
  • 06/20/2003 -- Dow Chemical, Freeport LNG agree on Gulf Coast LNG terminal
    Dow Chemical Co. and Freeport LNG Development LP (Freeport LNG) have reached an agreement whereby Dow will have the right to use Freeport LNG's proposed LNG receiving terminal for 20 years. Freeport LNG plans to build the terminal on its Quintana Island site southeast of Freeport in Brazoria County, Tex.
  • 06/06/2003 -- Esso Taiwan suspends plans to expand its retail marketing network
    Esso Taiwan has suspended the planned expansion of its retail network, citing intense competition from the Chinese Petroleum Corp. and Formosa Petrochemical Corp., along with an 11% import duty on refined products.
  • 05/20/2003 -- Premcor to expand Port Arthur refinery
    Premcor Inc., Old Greenwich, Conn., announced plans Tuesday to enlarge its heavy crude oil refinery in Port Arthur, Tex., to increase oil throughput capacity by 75,000 b/d, to 325,000 b/d from 250,000 b/d.
  • 04/22/2003 -- Williams expands Wyoming gas plant to process Shell production
    Engineering and procurement are under way on a fourth cryogenic processing train at a Williams Cos. gas plant in Opal, Wyo. The new cryogenic turbo expander plant will have a processing capacity of 350 MMcfd and will be capable of extracting more than 7,000 b/d of natural gas liquids.
  • 04/08/2003 -- Statoil gas sales spur Kårstø plant expansion
    Statoil ASA has secured a 10-year sales contract worth 300 million kroner/year, at 2003 prices, to supply ethane to Borealis AS and Norsk Hydro AS.
