    Pakistan's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources reported four recent oil and natural gas discoveries, all in Sindh Province, Pakistan, during the last month.

    EnCana Corp., Calgary, said it acquired 500,000 net acres in the Alberta-British Columbia foothills in a play from which it expects to recover more than 4 tcf of gas.
  • 09/24/2003 -- CNOOC starts Dongfang gas field development
    China's CNOOC Ltd. has begun activities associated with Phase I development of Dongfang (DF) field 1-1, the company's largest independent gas field. CNOOC is operator with 100% interest in the field.
  • 09/25/2003 -- Glitne reserves upgraded
    The producing life of Statoil's North Sea Glitne field has been almost doubled, according to its new forecast, and is likely to extend until the end of 2005. Recoverable reserves in the development have been upgraded by 50% from the estimate in the original plan for development and operation, Statoil said.
  • 10/02/2003 -- Statoil seeks new acreage off Norway in new licensing program
    Statoil ASA is seeking new Norwegian licenses off Norway under that country's first annual exploration program covering license awards in Norwegian Continental Shelf areas near those already known to have reserves.
  • 10/02/2003 -- Sonatrach increases Camisea share while Tractebel inks gas purchase
    Argentina's Pluspetrol Peru SA confirmed that it has agreed to sell 10% of its shares in the Camisea natural gas fields license to Algeria's state-owned Sonatrach along with another 10% interest in the transport consortium in which Sonatrach already holds 11%.
  • 10/03/2003 -- Northern Taranaki graben described as promising area in New Zealand
    The Taranaki basin produces from several oil and gas fields, including the Maui, which have been the backbone of New Zealand petroleum production for 30 years.
  • 10/06/2003 -- Petrobras awards 2H Offshore with riser contract
    Brazil's state-owned oil firm Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has awarded 2H Offshore Engineering, a UWG Group company, a contract for riser engineering services for the Brazilian operator's P51 production platform.
  • 10/07/2003 -- Enbridge launches $600 million crude oil pipeline proposal to supply US
    Enbridge Energy Partners LP reported Monday plans to develop a new crude oil pipeline from its existing terminal at Superior, Wisc., south to the Wood River hub in southern Illinois.

    Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. let a contract to SNC-Lavalin International Inc., Calgary, to determine the most suitable method of recovering carbon dioxide from boilers and steam reformers.
  • 10/07/2003 -- Pakistan awards Balochistan exploration license to Pakistan Petroleum
    Pakistan granted a petroleum exploration license Oct. 2 to Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. for Block No 2966-1 (Nushki) covering an area of 1780.76 sq km in the Chaghai, Mastang, Kalat, and Kharan districts of Balochistan province in western Pakistan. The block falls in prospectivity Zone-I.

    A new method for restoring high frequencies within the seismic bandwidth has been applied to a producing field in southern Alberta.
  • 10/14/2003 -- Burullus taps Intec for Simian, Sienna, Sapphire development services off Egypt
    Burullus Gas Co., has selected Intec Engineering (UK) Ltd., Woking, UK, to serve as an integral member of its Burullus Gas Project Management Team (PMT) providing engineering services during the development of deepwater Simian-Sienna and Sapphire gas fields off Egypt. Intec performed the front-end engineering design for Simian-Sienna, completing it in July 2002.
  • 10/17/2003 -- MMS issues final notice of eastern Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 189
    The US Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service issued a Final Notice of Sale Wednesday for Eastern Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Sale 189. The lease sale, which will be held Dec.10 in New Orleans, La., will include 138 unleased blocks covering 794,880 acres in the eastern GOM. The blocks are 100-196 miles offshore in water 1,600-3,425 m deep.
  • 10/17/2003 -- BP predicts escalating TNK-BP production
    BP PLC expects that its Russia investment will provide improving earnings and escalating production rates, adding that TNK-BP's production will be accretive even if the Brent crude oil price were to drop to $16/bbl.
  • 10/17/2003 -- CNOOC makes oil find in South China Sea
    Hong-Kong-based CNOOC Ltd. reported that its successful appraisal well, Weizhou (WZ) 11-1-2 in the Beibu Gulf of the Western South China Sea, confirmed commercial oil deposits in the area.
  • 10/20/2003 -- Russians, Japanese agree to expedite study of Siberia-Pacific crude pipeline
    Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to speed up discussions among experts over the feasibility of laying an oil pipeline between Russia's eastern Siberian oil fields and its port of Nakhodka on the Pacific Coast.

    Repsol-YPF SA plans to invest $170 million for exploration and development in the next 3 years in Mexico's Burgos basin.
  • 10/23/2003 -- OMV Pakistan, partners receive Sindh Province exploration license
    Pakistan issued a petroleum exploration license Wednesday to a joint venture of OMV Pakistan Exploration GMBH (operator), ENI Pakistan (M) Ltd.(formerly Lasmo (MP) Ltd.), and Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. to explore Block No. 2669-3 (Latif) covering an area of 1497.80 sq km in the Khairpur district of Sindh Province, Pakistan.
