  • 05/19/2003 -- Statoil installs Kvitebjørn topsides
    Statoil installed the 11,000 tonne Kvitebjørn platform topsides on the field in the North Sea Friday, following a weather delay in April. The topsides are on a 220-m tall, two-section steel jacket, installed by the Saipem 7000 crane ship.

    India has initiated a new exploration program, offering 24 blocks in both proven and highly prospective areas, including ultradeepwater blocks for the first time. Areas under the NELP (New Exploration Licensing Policy) IV round include 11 onshore blocks, 1 block offshore in shallow water, and 12 deepwater blocks.

  • 05/28/2003 -- Cuba invites Petrobras to explore for oil in the Gulf of Mexico
    The Cuban government has invited the Brazilian state-owned oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) to search for oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

    Calgary-based Tartan Energy Inc. reported that it's test of the Lower Carneros interval of its Silver Oak No.1 well in Bakersfield, Calif.—the first interval effectively tested on the well—has determined the presence of oil and natural gas, but not at economic rates.

    National Oil Corp. of Libya has contracted Repsol-YPF SA of Spain, as operator, and partner OMV AG of Austria to undertake the exploration of six blocks onshore and off Libya.
  • 06/06/2003 -- Peru sets Camisea transportation rates; development drilling continues
    Peruvian energy regulator Osinerg has set the maximum tariff rates for the transportation of natural gas through the main pipeline by Transporte Gas Natural from the Camisea natural gas fields on the eastern slopes of the Andes to the Lima-Callao city gate.
