  • 07/28/2003 -- Nigeria's Yoho oilfield development well ahead of schedule
    ExxonMobil Corp. unit Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited and its joint venture partner, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., have begun production from Yoho field off Nigeria 2 years ahead of full field start-up, reported OPEC News Agency. The field, on shallow-water Oil Mining Lease 104, has estimated reserves of 400 million bbl of oil (OGJ Online, Sept. 6, 2002).

    BG Group PLC, on behalf of its partners in giant Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field in northwest Kazakhstan¿ENI SPA, ChevronTexaco Corp. and OAO Lukoil¿has reported that first oil has been produced from the field for export through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipeline to world markets via the Black Sea. Gas injection into the field also has begun.

    Statoil ASA has given a letter of intent to Stavanger-based offshore drilling contractor Smedvig Offshore ASA for a 12-month drilling assignment on Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea. The job is valued at 350 million kroner.

  • 07/10/2003 -- Etame production off Gabon reduced further
    Pan-Ocean Energy Corp. Ltd., St. Helier, Jersey, reported Wednesday that Houston-based Vaalco Gabon (Etame) Inc, operator of Etame field off Gabon, has temporarily shut in production from a second well, ET- 1VA, due to a malfunctioning downhole safety valve. A remotely operated vehicle is scheduled to arrive at the field around July 13, at which time the cause of the malfunctions can be determined and remedial work undertaken to restore the wells to production.
  • 07/09/2003 -- ExxonMobil awards oil recovery project contracts for Nigeria East
    Exxon Mobil Corp. reported Wednesday that its subsidiary, Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), operator of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) joint venture, has awarded major contracts for additional oil recovery (AOR) initiatives in the East Area off Nigeria.

    Detailed reservoir studies of two enhanced coalbed methane recovery (ECBM) field projects in the San Juan basin of New Mexico provide an understanding of the reservoir mechanism of carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen (N2) injection into coalbeads, demonstrate the practical effectiveness of the ECBM and sequestration processes, and afford a basis for investigating the feasibility of CO2 sequestration in deep, unmineable coalbeds.

    Ivanhoe Energy Inc., Vancouver, BC, has contracted with Boston-based Ensyn Petroleum International to have Ensyn test its Rapid Thermal Processing technology which upgrades the quality of heavy oil by producing lighter crude oil.

    Queiroz Galvão Perfurações SA, the oil and gas subsidiary of Queiroz Galvão SA, a diversified Brazilian group, has received a $40 million investment loan from International Finance Corp. to support exploration and production operations in Brazil. IFC is the private sector arm of World Bank Group.
  • 07/08/2003 -- Burlington Resources begins oil production from Algeria's MLN field, resumes Madden field production
    Burlington Resources Inc., Houston, Monday reported it has started oil production from Menzel Lejmat North (MLN) field in Algeria and has commissioned the field's oil processing and storage facilities.
  • 07/02/2003 -- In-line separation boosts recovery on Statoil's Sleipner T platform
    Statoil ASA's development and use of a new compact in-line separation at its Sleipner T platform in the North Sea has improved recovery from the field, the company said, and the new technology holds promise for improving production from other deepwater subsea developments in producing fields, possibly making platforms unnecessary in the longer run.
