BP appoints new chief financial officer

Byron Grote has been appointed chief financial officer of BP PLC, effective Nov. 21. Grote succeeds John Buchanan, who has served as chief financial officer since 1996.

HOUSTON, Oct. 30 -- Byron Grote has been appointed chief financial officer of BP PLC, effective Nov. 21. Grote succeeds John Buchanan, who has served as chief financial officer since 1996 and has worked for the company for 33 years.

Grote was appointed an executive director of BP and chief executive of BP Chemicals in August 2000. Following his appointment, Grote will retain his additional responsibilities for the integrated supply and trading function and the Asia region.

Rodney Chase, currently deputy chief executive, will assume Grote's responsibilities for BP Chemicals, while Exploration Chief Executive Richard Olver will assume Buchanan's responsibilities for Australasia.
