  • 01/08/2002 -- Statoil says Mongstad refinery terminal is Europe's second-busiest port
    Statoil ASA reports the terminal at its 200,000 b/d Mongstad refinery now is Europe's second-busiest oil port, after Rotterdam, in terms of volume. Shipping at the four land facilities operated by Statoil in Norway and Denmark set records in 2001.
  • 01/07/2002 -- Emergency peaker plant permitting project ends in California
    With electricity prices falling and money tight, the last peaking power project pending under an emergency program to get electric generating capacity up and running quickly in California was withdrawn from consideration. Pegasus Power Project was a 180 Mw expansion of an existing plant at a prison in San Bernardino County. The application was withdrawn Jan. 3.

    Syncrude production from the $4.2 billion Sincor project in Venezuela will start on schedule in February, said main shareholder TotalFinaElf SA. Construction work at the upgrader in Jose was completed at yearend and startup is now underway.

    Phillips Petroleum Co. will pay more than $2 million in penalties for safety and health violations 16 months ago at its petrochemical complex in Pasadena, Tex., said the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

    Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (KMP) has agreed to buy another 10% of an Alberta-to-Ontario pipeline, bringing its stake to 45%. KMP will pay NOVA Chemicals Corp. $29 million in cash for the interest in the Cochin gas liquids pipeline.
