    It's been over a month since a judge's order shut down public access to most internet web sites and e-mail run by the US Department of the Interior. US District Judge Royce C. Lambert ordered the shutdown in response to claims of Interior's lax web site security that came in recent testimony in a 5-year-old lawsuit by Indian tribes that allege the department mishandled billions of dollars in royalty trust funds.

    Ocean Energy Inc. subsidiary Ocean Angola Corp. has acquired a 35% interest in and operatorship of Block 10 off Angola. It claims to be the only US independent chosen as an operator in that country.
  • 01/09/2002 -- Petrovietnam, Petronas, Pertamina to explore two blocks off Viet Nam
    The state oil companies of Malaysia, Viet Nam, and Indonesia will form a joint venture to explore Blocks 10 and 11.1 off Viet Nam. This is the first such alliance within the Tripartite Cooperation Arrangement signed in November 2000.

    Energy marketers appear to be recovering from December's panic attack brought on by Enron Corp.'s unexpected collapse, analysts said Tuesday. Companies are finding it easier if still somewhat expensive to raise money in the bond market, especially to pay down debt.

    Apache Corp.'s Ozoris-1X wildcat in the Western Desert of Egypt has tested 2,504 b/d of oil and 750 Mcfd of gas. The tested zone, the Cretaceous Alam el Bueib 3D sand, is a prolific producing horizon at Khalda Ridge, 12 miles east of Ozoris-1X.

    Pacific Gas & Electric Co. asked a US bankruptcy court to bar a consumer advocate unit of the California Public Utilities Commission from efforts to obtain correspondence with its parent PG&E Corp. concerning the utility's bankruptcy filing. The PUC has opposed the company's reorganization plan, claiming Pacific Gas & Electric is trying to escape state regulation.
