12/30/2002 -- Carbonate platform encountered farther north in western Newfoundland
Deer Lake Oil & Gas Inc., St. John's, said an exploratory well encountered the Cambro-Ordovician carbonate platform for the first time at depth in the Deer Lake basin onshore western Newfoundland, and the company bid successfully for more acreage nearby.
12/30/2002 -- Sigyn field starts production of natural gas, condensate
Production started Dec. 22 from the two Sigyn satellites in the North Sea, roughly 3 months ahead of schedule, Statoil ASA reported. Production had been scheduled to begin in March of this year (OGJ Online, Oct. 9, 2001).

US drilling activity surged to a 14-week high, adding 10 rotary rigs for a total of 860 units working, officials at Baker Hughes Inc. reported Friday.

Aberdeen-based Petrofac Production Services (PPS) inked a preoperatorship agreement with Paladin Expro Ltd.—a wholly owned unit of London-based Paladin Resources PLC—under which Petrofac will assume the operatorship of the Montrose and Arbroath production platforms in the central North Sea.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP, through its subsidiary Kinder Morgan CO2 Co. LP, has signed a contract with Houston-based Natco Group Inc. for the expansion of Natco's 180 MMcfd carbon dioxide membrane separation facility in the Scurry Area Canyon Reef Operators Committee (SACROC) unit in Scurry County, West Texas.

Zurich-based ABB received a $34 million contract to supply control and safety systems for the proposed 1,760 km Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline that will carry Caspian Sea region crude oil from Azerbaijan to Turkey's Mediterranean Sea coast for export.
