HOUSTON, Dec. 13 -- ExxonMobil Corp. has found hydrocarbons with two deepwater wells in the US Gulf of Mexico, 20 miles northwest of the 1 billion bbl Crazy Horse discovery on Mississippi Canyon Block 778.
The Hawkes well on Mississippi Canyon Block 509 and the Timber Wolf well on Mississippi Canyon Block 555 both found pay in Miocene reservoirs, said ExxonMobil. Both were temporarily plugged.
Hawkes, in 4,174 ft of water, was drilled to 23,143 ft. Timber Wolf, in 4,179 ft of water, was drilled to 23,143 ft.
The company plans further seismic studies and appraisal drilling. ExxonMobil has 100% of seven blocks covering the Hawkes discovery and 89% in four blocks at Timber Wolf. Marathon Oil Co. and Woodside Energy (USA) Inc. are participants in Timber Wolf.
ExxonMobil has a 25% stake in the BP PLC-operated Crazy Horse field.
The company is drilling the Keltics prospect on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 912 and 956, about 10 miles southeast of Crazy Horse. The well, on Block 912, is in 6,695 ft of water. It will test the Miocene as deep as 26,000 ft. ExxonMobil holds 100% interest in the prospect.
