Oct. 1 startup due for Malampaya gas field project off Philippines

Shell and the Philippines government have signed the final environmental agreements allowing the $2 billion Malampaya deepwater gas field to begin production ahead of schedule on Oct. 1. It will be the nation's first gas field, and with three associated power projects, $4.5 billion will be invested.
