HOUSTON, Aug. 24 -- Bluewater UK Ltd., for Soekor Pty. Ltd. and other partners in Sable field off South Africa, awarded Coflexip Stena Offshore International the subsea part of the integrated engineering, procurement, construction, and installation contract.

Sable is in 100 m of water in the Bredasdorp basin 150 km southwest of Mossel Bay.

The development consists of six subsea wells tied back to a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel.

CSO will design, supply, and install all subsea facilities, including 15 km of flexible flowlines and production risers and 9 km of umbilicals.

The flexible lines will be manufactured in Le Trait, France, and the umbilicals at Newcastle, UK.

Offshore installation will be performed in late 2002.

First production is expected in first quarter of 2003 (OGJ Online, June 18, 2001).

CSO will also do preinstallation work for Bluewater's mooring system for the Glas Dowr FPSO and hook up to the mooring system.

Jean-Michel Dumay, executive vice-president West Africa, of the CSO Group, said, "The flexible pipe solution is particularly well adapted to FPSOs, and is the best to cope with the harsh environment conditions of South Africa."

Other partners in Sable are Pioneer Natural Resources South Africa (Pty.) Ltd. and Petroleum Ltd.
