Lyondell-Citgo refining units to be fully operating by middle of next week

HOUSTON, June 13 -- Lyondell Chemical Co. Wednesday said all refining units at Lyondell-Citgo Refining LP near Houston are expected to be fully operational by the middle of next week.

This will allow LCR to return to full crude oil processing rates of 260,000 b/d.

A coker unit had a flash fire on June 9 that was related to power failures associated with Tropical Storm Allison. As a result, the refinery has been running at half its rated capacity.

An employee who sustained hot steam burns in the incident was released from the hospital on Tuesday, June 12. He is expected to make a full recovery. Two other employees injured in the incident were treated and released June 9.

Lyondell-Citgo, a venture of Lyondell Chemical and Citgo Petroleum Corp., operates a full conversion refinery on the Houston Ship Channel, processing crude oil to produce gasoline, low sulfur diesel, and jet fuel.
