By the OGJ Online Staff

HOUSTON, Apr. 4Dushanzi Petrochemical Co. will further increase the capacity of its polyethylene plant at Dushanzi, Xinjiang province, northwest China.

The company will use BP PLC's proprietary Innovene polyethylene technology to increase the linear low density polyethylene and high density polyethylene capacity of the plant by 40,000 tonnes/year to 190,000 tonnes/year in 2002.

An initial increase of the plants polyethylene capacity to 150,000 tonnes a year, announced in June 2000, is also expected to be completed in 2002 (OGJ Online, June 30, 2000).

The plant originally came on stream in 1995 at 120,000 tonnes/year capacity.

"The Dushanzi polyethylene plant has run so well and first expansion project is going so smoothly that we decided to again use BPs technology and the original plant contractor, Technip [SA], to expand and revamp the plant to maintain our leadership position in China, said Liu Jingkui, vice-president of Dushanzi Petrochemical Co.
