Aker Maritime AS subsidiary Aker Marine Contractors (AMC) said Monday it will use BOA Ltd.'s fleet of specialized vessels to install offshore platforms and mooring systems in deepwater.
The deal will give AMC access to BOA's transport barges, semisubmersible barges, and modern anchor-handling vessels. BOA paid 56 million kroner for 40% of AMC, with Aker retaining 60%.
Aker said the agreement would "strengthen the company's efforts to offer new installation methods to the growing market for advanced subsea systems."
BOA also agreed to place an order for an unnamed state-of-the-art construction vessel, which is expected to enter operation in spring 2002.
Among the operations performed by AMC are tow-out and installation of platforms, mating of decks and substructures, and design, fabrication, and installation of deepwater mooring systems. AMC and BOA have cooperated on several projects, including the recent mating of the deck and hull of the Snorre B platform in the Norwegian North Sea.
