  • 07/31/2001 -- Andersen says N. American drilling will continue climbing in 2002
    North American exploration and development drilling likely will continue increasing into 2002, barring a large drop in commodity oil and gas prices for an extended period, officials said Tuesday at Andersen -- the industry consulting firm formerly known as Arthur Andersen -- in Houston.

    Amerada Hess Corp., New York City, said Tuesday it would acquire Triton Energy Ltd., Dallas, for $3.2 billion, including the assumption of $500 million of Triton debt. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter.
  • 07/27/2001 -- Pioneer acquires two Argentina blocks, will build NGL plant and pipeline
    Pioneer Natural Resources Co., Irving, Tex., said it acquired two more blocks in Argentina. It also awarded a contract for construction of a natural gas liquids extraction facility at its Loma Negra complex.
  • 07/25/2001 -- Unocal says higher natural gas prices fuel earnings jump
    Unocal Corp. said Wednesday adjusted after-tax earnings, excluding special items, in the second quarter were $228 million, up from adjusted earnings of $170 million in the same quarter last year. Unocal's Lower 48 output was 954 MMcfd, up 31% from a year ago.
  • 07/24/2001 -- ExxonMobil earnings rise 6%, offset drop in chemicals profits
    ExxonMobil Corp. Tuesday reported record second quarter earnings of $4.38 billion, excluding merger effects and special items. That's up $230 million, or 6%, from the second quarter of 2000. Chemicals earnings fell $220 million due to deterioration in margins as higher gas prices drove up feedstock costs while product prices fell.

    Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston, said Monday that its board has authorized the purchase of up to $1 billion of its common stock. It said the purchase would not affect its drilling program; the company still would have enough capital to grow production at double-digit rates this year.

    Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP agreed to acquire a Texas natural gas pipeline system from an affiliate of Occidental Petroleum Corp. for $360 million.

    Carrizo Oil & Gas Inc. has acquired 50% of the working interest held by Rocky Mountain Gas Inc. in 107,000 net acres of coalbed methane leases in the Powder River basin. Separately, eWorld Travel Corp. is acquiring Powder River Basin Gas Corp. and will take the latter's name.

    Spinnaker Exploration Co., Houston, has a gas-condensate discovery at its Stirrup prospect on Mustang Island Block 861 in Texas state waters in the Gulf of Mexico. After stimulation, one sand tested at 21.1 MMcfd of gas and 130 b/d of condensate at flowing pressure of more than 11,000 psi.
  • 07/24/2001 -- Unocal says Trident find in deepwater Gulf of Mexico taps 300 ft of pay
    Unocal Corp. said Tuesday its deepwater Trident prospect in Alaminos Canyon Block 903 in the US Gulf of Mexico found more than 300 ft of hydrocarbon-bearing pay and other zones of interest. Unocal said preliminary evaluation indicates reservoir fluid of 40°-gravity or higher.

    Chevron Corp. said it made a seventh find on Angola Block 14 with Tombua field. The discovery well, in 925 ft of water 19 miles south of Kuito field, was drilled to 10,535 ft depth. It tested 10,022 b/d of 39°-gravity crude from two zones.
  • 07/31/2001 -- DTE joins group to cut greenhouse gas emissions
    Detroit utility holding company DTE Energy Co. said it joined the Chicago Climate Exchange, a group with plans to establish a voluntary greenhouse gas pilot trading program and cut emissions 5% by 2005 from 1999 levels.
