  • 06/18/2001 -- SCORE offshore rig indicator climbs again in April
    Offshore drilling contractor Global Marine Inc., Houston, reports its worldwide Summary of Current Offshore Rig Economics (SCORE) for May increased by 2.1% over April, marking the 21st consecutive month-to-month increase.
  • 06/18/2001 -- Development to proceed for Sable field off South Africa
    Partners in Sable field off South Africa have sanctioned its development, said Pioneer Natural Resources Co., Irving, Tex. If all goes as planned, the Soekor E&P Pty. Ltd.-operated field should begin production in the first quarter of 2003.
  • 06/18/2001 -- Federal Reserve Bank economists see weak rebound in oil jobs
    The US rig count has rebounded to the highest level since the mid-1980s, yet upstream employment as of December 2000 lags 10.9% below its peak, said two analysts at the Houston branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. "Job growth in oil and natural gas extraction remains surprisingly weak," Robert W. Gilmer and Albert Mitchell said in a recent report.
  • 06/18/2001 -- Fire and explosion racks liquids pumping station in South Australia
    The South Australian Cooper Basin Producers joint venture has suspended oil production because an explosion and fire racked a liquids pumping station at the Moomba gas-processing complex, Santos Ltd. reported Monday. The Saturday accident killed one worker and left the liquids processing plant inoperable.
  • 06/18/2001 -- AEC says Ladyfern discovery boosts production by 150 MMcfd
    Alberta Energy Co. Ltd. reports its Ladyfern gas discovery in northeast British Columbia went on stream May 17 and is producing more than 150 MMcfd. AEC said the addition of Ladyfern has increased company production to more than 1.5 bcfd, the first Canadian company to reach that production level.
  • 06/15/2001 -- US land rotary count up slightly; offshore rigs unchanged
    US land drilling increased slightly this week while utilization of mobile offshore rigs remained unchanged worldwide, industry officials reported Friday. There were 1,266 rotary rigs drilling in the US, 2 more than the previous week and up from 871 a year ago, said officials at Baker Hughes Inc.
  • 06/15/2001 -- Gryphon tieback in UK North Sea awarded to Halliburton
    Kerr-McGee North Sea UK Ltd. has awarded a $3 million contract to Halliburton Subsea, a unit of Halliburton Co., Dallas, for the installation, testing, and precommissioning of subsea facilities for a step-out well from Gryphon field on block 9/18 in the UK North Sea.

    US natural gas producers are ready to meet the demand of the upcoming winter heating season, with market fundamentals for gas supply strong, the American Gas Association said Thursday in a new report. In the long term, the AGA predicts, US demand will increase by 53%.

    Mitchell Energy & Development Corp., Houston, added 589 bcf of natural gas equivalent to its oil and gas reserves so far this year. The company's proven reserves are expected to total almost 2.1 tcf equivalent by the end of June, up 38% from the end of 2000.
  • 06/14/2001 -- JP Kenny wins Dolphin Deep work off Trinidad
    Trinidad East Coast Marine Area partners BG Trinidad & Tobago Ltd. and Texaco Trinidad Inc. Thursday awarded Wood Group company JP Kenny Inc. the contract to carry out front end engineering design for the development of Dolphin Deep field using subsea completion technology and upgrades to the existing Dolphin platform.

    High oil prices and slow-growing Thailand gas demand have prompted PTT Exploration & Production PCL to gear exploration and development towards liquids. PTTEP is considering bringing crude and condensate from Arthit field, a promising Gulf of Thailand gas field, on early production.
  • 06/14/2001 -- California to consider exempting refineries from rolling blackouts
    The California Public Utilities Commission Wednesday issued a draft decision that would exempt the state's refineries from rotating electrical outages this summer. Several of California's 12 refineries had asked for waivers after the PUC failed to give them automatic exemptions from blackouts.

  • 06/13/2001 -- Westlinks buying Bre Alta Energy heavy oil assets in Saskatchewan
    Westlinks Resources Ltd. is buying all of Bre Alta Energy's assets in the Superb area of Saskatchewan for $2.8 million (Can.), consisting of $1.3 million of common shares and $1.5 million cash. Closing of the acquisition, subject to regulatory approval, is expected on or before June 29.
  • 06/13/2001 -- Condensate storage tanker planned for Bongkot field off Thailand
    The European-Thai consortium developing Bongkot gas field off Thailand has decided to acquire a tanker to store produced condensate. A tanker previously used for the purpose developed leaks and had to be replaced.
  • 06/12/2001 -- CNOOC Ltd., foreign companies strike oil off China
    CNOOC Ltd. and its foreign partners have hit oil in several wells drilled so far this year. By the end of May, CNOOC had participated in 13 exploration wells, including nine drilled by foreign companies.

  • 06/11/2001 -- Vaalco Energy plans quick development for field off Gabon
    Vaalco Energy Inc. Monday reported delineation well Etame 4V confirmed a large commercial discovery on the Etame Marin concession off Gabon, adding the company will develop the field on a fast-track basis. The well was drilled 1.5 miles from the discovery well to a depth of 2,222 m.
  • 06/11/2001 -- Gulf of Mexico well may enhance Gunnison subbasin
    Kerr-McGee Corp., Oklahoma City, said a well on Durango prospect on Garden Banks Block 667 in the Gulf of Mexico may enhance the Gunnison subbasin. Kerr-McGee said the find could increase estimated reserves for the subbasin by 120 bcf of gas equivalent.
