Drilling/Production news briefs, Oct. 26

UK-based Emerald Energy PLC said Wednesday that the Gigante No. 1A well in the Upper Magdalena Valley in Colombia is back in production following remedial work to clean up the site after a blowout and fire earlier this year (OGJ Online, July 12, 2000). Oil production is flowing at 2,400 b/d. A pressure test is now being conducted, before installation of the electric submersible pump that is expected to result in a flow rate of more than 4,000 b/d.

PTT Exploration & Production Public Co. Ltd. (PTTEP), an affiliate of Petroleum Authority of Thailand, has awarded Aberdeen-based BJ Tubular Services, a unit of BJ Services Co., a contract to provide casing and tubing running services in Thailand. BJ said Wednesday that the contract, its first from PTTEP, fits in with its expansion program in the Asia-Pacific region. BJ received the 2-year contract from PTTEP this summer and began operations on PTTEP's Bongkot field in the Gulf of Thailand in August 2000.

Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has awarded Wood Group ESP a contract to supply 48 electric submersible pump (ESP) units over the next 12 months. The ESPs will be installed offshore in the Campos Basin, the location of Petrobras' ultradeepwater production facilities. The latest equipment will complement the existing 120-unit installed base and include all downhole components of the ESP system. "These are the most important contracts won by Wood Group ESP since we became active in Brazil," said Wood Group ESP's Brazil Country Manager Daniel Fleitas."

The Resilient Oilfield in the Internet of Things World

When Tue, Sep 22, 2015

As we hear about the hype surrounding the Internet of Things, the oil and gas industry is questioning what is different than what is already being done. What is new?  Using sensors and connecting devices is nothing new to our mode of business and in many ways the industry exemplifies many principles of an industrial internet of things. How does the Internet of Things impact the oil and gas industry?

Prolific instrumentation and automation digitized the industry and has changed the approach to business models calling for a systems led approach.  Resilient Systems have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining their central purpose.  A resilient system, such as Maximo, allows an asset intensive organization to leverage connected devices by merging real-time asset information with other critical asset information and using that information to create a more agile organization.

Join this webcast, sponsored by IBM, to learn how about Internet of Things capabilities and resilient systems are impacting the landscape of the oil and gas industry.
