Skidmore Energy Inc., Salado, Tex., said its Moroccan affiliate Lone Star Energy drilled a discovery well on Block 3 of the Talsinnt Permit in the High Plateau basin.
The SBK-1 well on the Sidi Belkacem prospect �confirms the petroleum system and the potential of the Triassic and Jurassic age sediments on the northern flank of the Atlas Mountains,� said geologist and Skidmore Pres. John Sobehrad.
The company said the well encountered Triassic TAGI, its primary target, at 3,425-3,505 m. �Two zones were isolated for production testing and modeling. A drill stem test indicates a reservoir pressure of 7,175 psi and a production rate of 2,500 Mcfd, with minor amounts of light oil.
�Analysis of the DST results indicates good reservoir conditions, with expectations of primarily oil production and a potential reserve estimate of 50-100 million boe for the prospect,� Skidmore said.
Lower Jurassic dolomites, the secondary target, �had positive oil and gas shows, confirming the surface seismic hydrocarbon indicators and potential of the updip position on the structure. Surface and wellbore seismic analysis is being conducted to develop the prospect.�
Skidmore gave no TD but said it was drilling a developmental sidetrack to confirm reservoir extent and expedite placing the well on production.
Skidmore said the prospect originated from its use of a proprietary Sedimentary Residual Magnetics (SRM) tool, which it has been testing since 1981 and which it used commercially since 1995 in South Texas and the Gulf of Mexico. Some 26,374 line km of SRM data flown on Talsinnt during August-November 1999 �indicated 11 highgraded Magnetic Bright Spot [MBS]anomalies with excellent SRM intensity and good hydrocarbon character,� Skidmore said.
The well is on the western edge of the High Plateau basin about 100 miles south-southwest of Oujda and 60 miles west of Morocco�s border with Algeria.
Lone Star, with three onshore and two shelf blocks in Morocco, hopes to drill two offshore and five land wells.
