Tesoro West Coast Co., a subsidiary of Tesoro Petroleum Corp., San Antonio, on Thursday said it is buying eight retail stations in five US states from Gary-Williams Retail Co. for an undisclosed amount. The purchase, expected to close by July 31, "will complement our existing retail expansion program and mark our entry into new markets," says Tesoro Chairman Bruce A. Smith. The fuel stations are in Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, South Dakota, and New Mexico. Seven are on Wal-Mart properties; the land at those sites will be leased from Wal-Mart.
Enmax Corp., Calgary, Alta., has awarded a 10-year contract to Vision Quest Windelectric Inc., Calgary, to supply about 30,000 Mw hr/year of wind-generated electricity to support Enmax's green power program. The contract calls for construction of 16 wind turbines, each rated at 660 kw. Enmax, a wholly owned subsidiary of the city of Calgary, estimates the project will prevent about 35,000 tonnes/year of air emissions. Customers may choose from three green power options, purchasing up to 45% of average monthly consumption from wind-generated power.
PPL Corp., Allentown, Pa., reported its development subsidiary plans to install five compact natural gas-fired generation plants in eastern Pennsylvania totaling about 900 Mw of electric generating capacity and representing an investment of $425 million. Designed for peak electricity needs, the plants are scheduled to begin operating in the summer of 2002. The proposed projects are subject to various governmental reviews.
