Iroquois Gas files to construct pipeline extension

Iroquois Gas Transmission System LP filed with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a certificate of public convenience and necessity to construct a $170 million gas pipeline extension from Long Island into New York City.

If approved, the Eastchester Extension Project will deliver about 220 MMcfd of gas from Western Canada to the Consolidated Edison Co. gas grid starting in 2002. The project includes a 30-mile extension from Iroquois' existing mainline on Long Island, new compressor stations and units, and other equipment maintenance and upgrades.

"Our Eastchester project will significantly enhance the capabilities of the natural gas grid in New York City," said Craig Frew, president of the Iroquois Pipeline Operating Co. "The project has been designed to ensure both new and existing customers will benefit from the new facilities that will be built."

Iroquois Pipeline Operating Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Iroquois Gas Transmission System LP, is operator of Iroquois' 375-mile gas pipeline. Partners are TransCanada Pipelines Ltd., KeySpan Energy Corp., CNG Transmission Corp., ANR Pipeline Co., PG&E Generating Co., Connecticut Natural Gas Corp., and New Jersey Resources Corp.
