  • 12/26/2000 -- Zenhai refinery in China to get expansion
    China's Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co. Ltd. plans to expand its refinery at Zhenhai in Zhejiang province. It will build a 1.5 million tonnes/year hydrotreater and a 20,000 b/d delayed coking unit before 2005.
  • 12/22/2000 -- Heerema Group acquires Intec Engineering
    The Heerema Group this week acquired Intec Engineering Inc., Houston, through a stock purchase agreement for which financial terms were not disclosed. Both companies will continue to operate independently but will cooperate to pursue engineering, procurement and construction contracts for deepwater field developments,
  • 12/22/2000 -- Halliburton to split energy, construction operations
    Halliburton Co., Dallas, said Thursday that it plans to split its oil field services business from its engineering and construction operations. While discussing third quarter earnings, Halliburton said it was concerned about the poor near term market outlook for the downstream engineering and construction business.
  • 12/22/2000 -- Pertamina taking more gas for Duri steamflood
    Units of Gulf Canada Resources Ltd. and Talisman Energy Inc., both of Calgary, have completed an agreement with Pertamina of Indonesia to supply additional natural gas from the Corridor Block contract to the Duri steamflood operated by Caltex in central Sumatra. The agreements provide for 1.1 tcf of gas to be delivered over 19 years.
  • 12/21/2000 -- Reliance to buy Venezuelan crude
    India's Reliance Petroleum Ltd. has signed a deal with Venezuelan state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) agreeing to buy a 20 million bbl of crude next year, according to a report from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries' news agency, OPECNA. The contract, signed on Dec. 14, is thought to be India's largest single purchase of crude from Venezuela.
  • 12/21/2000 -- EC clears Repsol and Borealis joint venture
    The European Commission (EC) Wednesday cleared a proposed joint venture between Spain's Repsol YPF group subsidiary Repsol Qu�ca SA and Danish thermoplastics and petrochemicals feedstock company Borealis AS. The EC said the 50:50 joint venture, which will bring together the two companies' polyolefins businesses and related assets in the Iberian Peninsula, 'does not raise any competition concerns.'
  • 12/20/2000 -- Association: High oil, gas prices distorting propane market
    The US National Propane Gas Association says propane price and distribution problems have been caused by extended cold temperatures and high oil and gas prices. Some complain that the jump in gas prices may make it uneconomical for producers to recover propane from the natural gas stream.

  • 12/20/2000 -- Australian, Malaysian companies to build Pakistani LPG terminal
    The Pakistani arm of Malaysian company Keloil Sdn. Bhd. has awarded a contract worth more than $20 million to Australian engineering company Process Control Technology Pty. Ltd. (PCT) for the design, construction, and commissioning of a liquefied petroleum gas terminal at Port Qasim, about 25 km from Karachi.
  • 12/20/2000 -- BP, Solvay to form polymer JVs, swap other assets
    BP and French company Solvay SA have signed a preliminary deal to form two polymer joint ventures and swap other polymer-related assets. The deal involves businesses with combined turnover of $2.62 billion. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
  • 12/19/2000 -- Promax expands southeastern Alberta gas plant
    Promax Energy Inc., Calgary, has expanded its producing facilities in Cessford, Alta., with the commissioning of a gas processing plant. The station, at 6-14-24-10 W4M, consists of a 20 MMcfd inlet separator, 10 MMcfd compressor, dehydrator, and hydrocarbon dewpoint control unit.
  • 12/19/2000 -- Edison International affiliate seeks new financing for Thai coal plant
    Gulf Power Generation Co (GPG), partly owned by the US energy firm Edison International, is trying to get its delayed Bor Nok coal-fired power project in southern Thailand off the ground, in spite of opposition by local residents concerned about its potential social and environmental impact. The US-Thai joint venture is now moving to arrange about $600 million financing to replace the previous borrowing plan that was outdated because of changing conditions.
  • 12/18/2000 -- Suncor Energy group restarts Australia shale plant
    A group led by Suncor Energy Inc. has restarted oil shale processing at its Stuart Project near Gladstone in Queensland, following completion of a planned 3-month turnaround. More than $6 million (Aus.) worth of equipment was installed at the plant as part of a program of emission and noise abatement.
  • 12/18/2000 -- Emergency works starts on North Dakota power line
    Construction will start immediately on an emergency replacement of the Ramsey-McHenry 230 kv transmission line, Great River Energy's only alternating current (AC) transmission line in North Dakota, the Minnesota cooperative said Friday. Work on the power line gets under way with The National Weather Service warning of white out conditions and the potential for 'dangerous wind chills' in the region Monday
  • 12/15/2000 -- MMS outlines royalty relief proposals
    US Minerals Management Service (MMS) officials outlined proposals Thursday at a workshop in Houston to amend the recently expired 1995 Deepwater Royalty Relief Act. Unlike that earlier act, MMS would give relief to shallow natural gas and ultradeepwater prospects instead of properties lying in 200-800 m of water.

  • 12/13/2000 -- Phillips sells UK petrochemical subsidiary
    Phillips Petroleum Co. UK Ltd. Wednesday announced it has signed a deal to sell joint venture company Phillips-Imperial Petroleum (PIP) Ltd. to Petroplus International NV for $110 million as part of plans to focus 'more intensively' on its core UK E&P operations. The sale of PIP, part owned by Imperial Chemicals Industries PLC, is part of Phillips' global strategy to 'rationalize [the company's] assets in order to concentrate on [its] exploration and production portfolio.'
  • 12/13/2000 -- Release of US strategic reserve crude reduced imports
    The American Petroleum Institute said November US oil imports were at their lowest level since last February because the federal government released 600,000 b/d from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Oil imports averaged 8.34 million b/d, compared with 8.94 million b/d for the year to date.
