  • 05/03/2000 -- Qatar, ExxonMobil sign enhanced gas utilization pact
    ExxonMobil Corp. unit ExxonMobil Middle East Gas Marketing and Qatar General Petroleum Corp. have signed a development and production-sharing agreement for an enhanced gas utilization project at Qatar's supergiant North gas field.

    Mitchell Energy & Development has begun an infill drilling program in East Texas' North Personville field; 18-24 wells are planned this year.
  • 05/01/2000 -- Economides: US gas price spikes expected
    US natural gas prices 'definitely' will climb to $4 per Mcf this fall, with world oil prices escalating to $40 per barrel probably within a year, unless producers dramatically increase spending to offset depletion and to supply growing demand, a University of Houston professor told reporters at the Offshore Technology Conference Monday in Houston.
  • 05/01/2000 -- Conoco completes acquisition of Petro-Canada assets
    Conoco Inc., Houston, and its wholly owned subsidiary Conoco Canada Ltd. said Monday that they have completed the acquisition of assets associated with the March agreement to purchase of Petro-Canada's NGL business. The price of the additional asset acquisitions was not disclosed.
  • 04/30/2000 -- Norway awards 34 exploration licenses
    Norway's Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has awarded 34 exploration licenses for parts of or entire blocks on the Norwegian continental shelf. Thirteen companies, alone or in combination with others, won the blocks in Norway's 16th licensing round.
  • 04/30/2000 -- Lundin wants new partner to on Malaysia-Viet Nam block
    Lundin Oil AB, Stockholdm, said it plans to sell part of its interest in Block PM-3 CAA in the jointly administered Commercial Arrangement Area in the South China Sea between Malaysia and Viet Nam.

    Operator Barrett Resources Corp. drilled Bullfrog 5-12 well, on the Waltman Deep structure south of Cave Gulch field in Wyoming's Wind River basin, to 19,550 ft TD, penetrating the Frontier, Muddy, and Lakota formations.

    Azerbaijan's Parliament has ratified the exploration, development, and production-sharing agreement for the Zafar-Mashal exploration block in the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea, says ExxonMobil Corp.

    Spinnaker Exploration Co., Houston, has made a natural gas discovery in the Gulf of Mexico off Texas.
  • 04/29/2000 -- Elf makes eighth find off Angola
    Partners in the prolific Block 17 off Angola announced a new oil discovery. On test, Jasmin 1, drilled in 4,239 ft of water, flowed 11,000 b/d of oil.
  • 04/29/2000 -- BP Amoco awards Crazy Horse, Holstein contracts
    BP Amoco PLC has awarded a $12 million offshore design engineering contract to Mustang Engineering Inc., Houston, for work on the Crazy Horse and Holstein oil and gas developments in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Mustang will provide preliminary topsides design and project services for the deepwater project. The discoveries were announced by BP Amoco in July 1999 (OGJ, July 19, 1999, Newsletter).
  • 04/29/2000 -- Fletcher Challenge begins drilling program in Brunei
    Fletcher Challenge Energy Ltd. began drilling Apr. 15 its first exploration well in what is reported to be the biggest offshore exploration drilling program in Brunei for a decade. The well, Bendahara Selatan A-1 (BSA-1), is on Block BCD and will explore several targets at 1,360-3,700 m. The shallower horizons are thought to be potentially oil bearing, while gas and condensate reserves are more likely within the deeper horizons, said Fletcher Challenge.
  • 04/29/2000 -- Conoco signs agreement for offshore Viet Nam exploration
    Conoco Inc. and partners PetroVietnam and Korean National Oil Corp. said they signed a contract last week to begin exploration of Block 16-2 near Bach Ho oil field off Viet Nam.
