Schlumberger Ltd.,

Houston, released its Avocet 2012 production operations software platform engineered to produce a complete and up-to-date picture of operations with engineering analysis capabilities to pinpoint causes for production shortfalls.

"Today, production engineers manage seven times more wells than they did in the mid-1990s," said Meyer Bengio, vice-president of petroleum engineering at Schlumberger Information Solutions. "The large number of wells combined with the significant increase in real-time data generated from permanent sensors has created a situation in which engineers only have time to react to well problems, rather than preventing them. With Avocet, engineers can be proactive with all of their wells and act with confidence to close the gap between actual and potential production."

The Avocet 2012 software supports production computations, visualization of production networks, and reporting of current and historical information. Additional capabilities include component allocations, determination of artificial lift efficiency, AFE and workover performance tracking, and a tracking system to avoid costly well integrity problems and to record well completion operations to meet regulatory requirements.

Tendeka,

Aberdeen-based provider of completions and reservoir monitoring products and services announced two key promotions: Gillian King, appointed vice-president of the Asia Pacific region; and Derren Simpson, named vice-president for the Middle East and North Africa.

King joined Tendeka as senior sales engineer in January 2007, served as regional sales manager for Europe, and became area manager for the south Asia Pacific in 2010. She holds an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Aberdeen University and a graduate degree in offshore oil and gas engineering from Robert Gordon's University. Prior to joining Tendeka, King was employed by Weatherford Completion Systems. She has more than 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and is knowledgeable in the key areas of completions, sand control, and expandable technologies.
Simpson joined Tendeka as area manager for Asia Pacific in 2010. He previously was country manager for WellDynamics in Australia and before that held a number of management posts within Weatherford International. Simpson has more than 20 years experience in the international energy industry, with expertise in well construction, drilling, intelligent and conventional completions, sand control, inflow control, and production optimization technologies.

In other news, Tendeka agreed to give Matpatson Petroleum Services the exclusive promotion and sale of Tendeka products in Nigeria. The agreement "gives Tendeka access to a very important market and will provide operators in Nigeria with the very best technology to monitor, manage, and control their completions and reservoirs," said Tendeka CEO Gary Smart.

Matpatson was formed in 2002 and has 51 employees. Its aim is to maintain, ensure and sustain a continued development and availability of indigenous expertise in Nigeria for the oil and gas industry.

ABS,

Houston, the leading classification society for maritime vessels, plans to strengthen its ties to the South Korean maritime industry with establishment of the ABS Korea Energy Technology Center (KETC) in Busan [formerly Pusan] early next year. This will be ABS' first energy center and will focus on applied research to a broad range of current and future technology challenges. Dr. Hoseong Lee, a veteran of ABS and of the South Korean maritime industry, was named to the new position as vice-president of global Korean technology development to provide guidance and oversight for KETC.

The plan is for KETC to undertake research in partnership with local universities, shipyards, and other organizations, drawing upon the knowledge and experience of ABS engineering and survey staff worldwide. Priority areas include offshore exploration and production technology, subsea applications, LNG technology, ship energy efficiency, and renewable energy.

Lee is the ABS liaison for South Korean businesses as of Nov. 1. Although he will be based in Houston, ABS officials said he will spend considerable time in South Korea working closely with the ABS staff as well as coordinating South Korean business development worldwide.

Andre Han, currently the ABS country manager for South Korea, will take on the additional role of senior advisor, maintaining responsibility for managing the strategic in-country operations with shipyards, vendors, government officials, and other key stakeholders.

Christopher J. Wiernicki, ABS president and CEO, said KETC will help ABS better anticipate the needs of its South Korean customers and expedite service delivery. He said, "Korean shipbuilders are global organizations, and this renewed focus will be instrumental in providing the most effective classification service delivery that we offer."
